Episode 53: Andy N – Poetry in all places

Andy N is not only a prolific poet, novelist, podcaster among other creative roles he is also a tireless champion of other poets and artists. He reads some poems from his recent collections and looks back on a long and productive career as well as offering some creative writing ideas.

Andy’s writing prompt

Write a poem with place names. Andy included seven towns in his poems Changing Carriages at Birmingham New Street. See what places you can weave into a poem. They might be places you know well, places you visited once a long time ago or places you have never visited. Let your mind wander and see where it takes you.

Andy N is the author of numerous poetry collections including ‘The End of Summer’, ‘From the Diabetic Ward’ and ‘Changing Carriages at Birmingham New Street’ and in 2023 brought out his debut novel ‘Birth’.

His Podcast credits include – Spoken Label (Author / Poet Chat Podcast) / Cloaked in the Shadows (Paranormal / Supernatural Podcast) and Not the TV Guide (TV / Film Review Podcast).

He co-runs Chorlton Cum Hardy’s always welcoming Spoken Word Open Mic ‘Speak Easy’ and does ambient music under the name of Ocean in a Bottle and works with the band Polly Ocean.

Norfolk Poets: Jenny Pagdin

We welcome back Norwich poet, Jenny Pagdin, to share some poems from her debut collection The Snow Globe. On her previous appearance spoke about her experiences of postpartum psychosis which this collection explores. The Snow Globe is published by Nine Arches Press and can be purchased here.

Jenny Pagdin published ‘The Snow Globe’, her first full collection, with Nine Arches Press in February 2024. Her pamphlet Caldbeck was published by Eyewear in 2017 and shortlisted for the Mslexia pamphlet competition. Other competition wins include second prize, Norfolk prize and Commended in the Cafe Writers Competition, Highly Commended and shortlisted in the Bridport, and longlisting for the Rebecca Swift Foundation. Her poetry is widely published including in New Welsh Review, Smoke, Magma, Ambit, Wild Court, The Stand, Finished Creatures, Interpreter’s House, Ink, Sweat & Tears and an Emma Press anthology.

Jenny lives in Norwich with her family, where she works in the voluntary sector. She has an MA in Creative Writing from the University of East Anglia and a BA in English from Oxford University.
